Hangzhou Grand Canal

The Hangzhou Grand Canal, originating in Yuhang (today's Hangzhou) in the south and reaching Beijing in the north, stretches approximately 1,797 kilometers. It is a magnificent project created by the ancient Chinese working people and one of the longest, earliest-dug, and largest canals in the world. Along the Grand Canal, there are abundant cultural relics, including ancient bridges, streets, buildings, and sites. It displays diverse landscapes throughout the seasons, leaving a deep impression on visitors. Additionally, it played a crucial role in the ancient Silk Road. Through this waterway, Chinese commodities such as silk, tea, and porcelain were continuously transported to various parts of the world, fostering cultural exchanges and integration between China and foreign countries. On June 22, 2014, at the 38th Session of the World Heritage Committee, the China Grand Canal was successfully inscribed on the World Heritage List.
